
Michael is representing Disability Voices Tasmania on the Disability Inclusion Advisory Council.
Michael identifies as a person with a psychosocial disability and runs a consultancy business based in Hobart working with people with disability, businesses, government and the building sector on improving access and inclusion.
Michael came to Australia in 1987 and initially worked in country NSW and then Sydney advocating for the rights of people with intellectual disability.
From 1993 to 2011, Michael worked at the Australian Human Rights Commission developing guidelines and standards to improve access to public transport, the internet, education, local government services, banking, and the built environment.
In 2012, Michael was awarded the Minister’s Award for Excellence in Disability Reform, and in 2016 he was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study access compliance overseas.
Voluntary roles include Chair of the Intellectual Disability Rights Service, member of various local government advisory bodies, Board member of Home Modifications Australia, and since 2019, has been closely involved in establishing Disability Voices Tasmania acting as Chair for several years.
