I am concerned about a child
If you are concerned about the wellbeing of someone aged under 18, please call the Strong Families Safe Kids. They will:
- Talk to you about the situation.
- Answer your questions.
- Give you information or advice.
- If needed, arrange a referral to a service which can best meet the needs of the child.
Strong Families Safe Kids can be contacted at
- Phone: 1800 000 123
- Strong Family's Safe Kids webform.
If the child you are concerned about is a person with disability, you can also make a report to the Disability Commissioner Tasmania.
What can I make a report about?
A report is something you would like to tell the Disability Commissioner. This could be about:
- Treatment: How you or someone else with disability is treated.
- Challenges: Difficulties you or someone else face as a person with disability.
- Suggestions: Changes you would like to see that would help people with disability.
The Commissioner can only investigate individual reports related to violence, abuse, neglect, coercion, and exploitation of people with disability. If your report is not about these issues, we'd still like to hear from you. We can use your report to push for changes within the Tasmanian Government to increase inclusion of people with disability.

What happens when I make a report?
When we receive reports, we will:
- Acknowledge your report: We will try to acknowledge your report within two business days if you provide contact details.
- Conduct preliminary enquiries and a risk assessment: We assess all reports to understand the risk of harm. We start by asking questions about the report to determine the risk.
- Investigate: If a report shows a high risk of violence, abuse, neglect, coercion, or exploitation, we will investigate further. We gather information to make recommendations to fix or prevent the situation and report back to the person with disability. Not all reports will be investigated.
- Referral: Some reports may be better handled by another government or non-government organisation. If so, we will pass your report to the right organisation and let you know why we’ve done this.
- Systemic advocacy: We can’t address every report, but we will use de-identified information to identify trends and push for change within the government and through broader systemic investigations.
