Small square wooden blocks secured together to create a much larger square that is 25 cm by 25 cm. Each wooden block is painted with acrylic paint in different shades of green and brown. Positioned together, they show Andy's love of being in nature, of real life pixel art that depicts the artist's happy place and a path that leads to better things.

About the Artwork

Listen to the artist statement for Forest Path

I love to be out in nature. I love to sit under trees and listen to birds and pretend that nothing else matters.

My piece "Forest Path" is a "real life" pixel art that depicts my happy place, and the path that leads to better things.

Andy James wears a red dress, wings and a tiara.

I am a very creative person; I love to write and draw and sew and have a lot of different hobbies. Real life pixel art is a newer one, but one I really enjoy. It ties together my love of video games and a traditional medium like painting.

I have autism and a chronic pain disability called Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder. My creative outlets keep me sane and help me find meaning in my life. I am a very ambitious person but struggle a lot with the barriers my disabilities give me. Art is something that helps me follow my dreams without causing myself more pain.
