Raven is a trace monotype with watercolour pencils. The work depicts a black raven standing to the side with its beak pointing out. There are black lines on its body indicating the feathers. The Raven is mostly black with some blues and greys created from watercolour pencils. There is some dark grey shading in the background. Monotype is a type of printmaking process that produces a one-off print. It is made by applying printing ink or paint to sheet of plastic, metal or glass. A piece of paper is placed on top of the ink. The artist makes marks or draws on the back pressing the ink and paper together to create lines and shading. Removing the paper from the ink reveals a monotype image.

Listen to the artist statement for Raven and Meg's bio

The nature of a MS is that it’s a progressive disease, and for make that means it every day, every week, every year is a little bit worse.
Things that used to be possible are no longer possible, and things that used to be easy can be really hard. This year I’ve been looking a bit
harder at these dark feelings. In acknowledging them and recognising them it’s possible to see that they have their own kind of beauty,
and there is a kind of tranquillity that can be found even in those darkest days.

I’m a person living with MS. I’m quite physically disabled - I spend most of my time in a wheelchair. I’ve always been a maker, but recently I was encouraged to start doing art again. I love the creativity of making works on paper, and printmaking is a new adventure.
